Legal Counsel – Commercial

Fantastic role for a 3-to-7-year PQE Commercial Lawyer to join a leading Australian engineering consulting group. This role isn’t seeking a lawyer with engineering or construction projects – instead, the role’s focus will be to provide commercial legal support for the advisory business.

THE ROLE: Legal Counsel – Commercial

• Reporting to the Regional GC and working within a team of 8 other lawyers, you will support the business with:-
• Business case strategy, analysis, and design
• Due diligence incorporating technical, commercial, and financial interfaces.
• Technical consulting on risk, procurement, consultation and team management
• Asset decision framework strategy, including modelling, benchmarking and analysis.
• Risk advisory services to connect strategic objectives with project and asset performance
• It would suit a lawyer with prior advisory experience, for example, from a professional services firm or financial services background, or with strong commercial acumen and drafting.
• Sydney or Melbourne is the preferred office locations.
• Full-time, five days per week
• This role isn’t seeking a lawyer to have experience with engineering or construction projects. Instead, the role’s focus will be to provide commercial legal support for the advisory business.
• Hybrid and flexible working arrangements

ABOUT YOU:

You have the basics – You have a current Australian practising certificate, 3 to 6 years of commercial experience gained at a reputable firm and, ideally, prior in-house or secondment experience. Experience working in or providing advice to a consulting/advisory company would be nice but not essential.

You are a good lawyer and eager to learn – You can turn your mind to diverse legal issues and work from first principles.

You fit culturally – You are self-aware; grounded; have excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficient in technology; an energetic self-starter; comfortable operating autonomously; calm and considered; practical with common sense; and prepared to take ownership.

You get it commercially – You are commercially minded and offer practical legal solutions for the business. You have the aptitude for managing work priorities and the expectations of diverse stakeholders.
