THE ROLE
Reporting to: Work with an excellent and supportive General Counsel. We have known this General Counsel for over 15 years and vouch for their capability, integrity and supportive nature.
Working: Hybrid – 3 days in the office, 2 from home with flexibility also provided

Team: 2 Lawyers and a Contracts Manager
Tasks:
- Support the safety message throughout the organisation
- Provide legal advice to the business on all legal issues, including corporate, M&A transactions, ASX regulatory, commercial, safety and compliance, procurement contracts, debt recovery, and people and industrial relations.
- Lead the contract review process, including preparing and negotiating departures from contract templates, risk review and advice, insurance review, internal stakeholder engagement, completion of internal sign-offs, and execution.
- Attend to legal aspects of real property and plan leasing across the group
- Assist with the review and update of the corporate risk register by management
- Uphold the company values through visible leadership and demonstrable commitment to those values
- Assist with litigation and resolution of commercial disputes, workplace safety investigations
- Manage external counsel engagement, performance, and budget
- Assist with legal training
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement to manage risk, achieve cost savings and operations efficiencies
- Participate in special projects
ABOUT YOU
You have the basics:
- You hold an Australian Legal Practicing Certificate and have at least 8 years of post-qualification experience
- You live in one of these cities in order of preference: Brisbane; Melbourne; Perth
- Ideally, you have in-house experience within or supplying the following industries with goods or services:-
- Construction
- Infrastructure
- Mining
- Utilities
You get it commercially – You have a keen awareness of commercially-minded and practical legal solutions for the business. You have the aptitude to manage work priorities and the expectations of diverse stakeholders. You are equally comfortable working autonomously or in a team environment as required.
You fit culturally– You are self-aware, grounded, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, are proficient in technology, are comfortable operating autonomously, are calm and considered, practical with common sense, and prepared to take ownership.
You are a good lawyer. You should be able to operate and accustomed to working largely autonomously. You need to be a skilled legal operator to consider diverse legal issues, work from first principles, and see the big picture. You should have extensive commercial and contractual negotiation and drafting experience.
