Senior Legal Counsel, Leading Not-For-Profit, Permanent, Melbourne

  • Review, draft, negotiate, and amend contracts, tenders, acquisitions and other commercial arrangements.
  • With the General Counsel, manage and coordinate incoming requests to the Legal Team
  • With the General Counsel, manage Legal Registers, Contracts Register and database.
  • Provide general legal advice across all business divisions and units.
  • Manage and mentor junior staff
  • Draft intranet content, newsletters and other communications for the Legal Team.
  • Represent the Legal Team on project working groups/teams

Start Date: ASAP
Reports: Manage a junior commercial lawyer
Legal Team: GC + 5 lawyers and admin
Hybrid Working: 2 days in the office / 2 from home
Days per week: 5 days per week, depending on experience
Reporting to: Excellent GC. I have worked with them over the past 4 years, and they are a fantastic lawyer and a super nice person.
Remuneration: Up to $200K inc super. Depending on your experience level


Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 5+ years of PQE commercial legal experience, whether in private practice or combined with In-house experience, preferably within not-for-profit organisations.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, tenders, acquisitions and general commercial advice.
  • Desire and ability to work across a variety of legal issues.
  • Strong drafting and proofreading skills and attention to detail.

  • You are self-aware, grounded, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient in technology, comfortable operating autonomously, adapt quickly to changing priorities, calm and considered, practical with common sense, and prepared to take ownership.
