Dispute & Commercial Lawyer – Leading University

This role has arisen due to maternity leave and an additional spike in workload. The institution is looking for a legal professional to:

  • Handle disputes – administrative law/complaints about discrimination, privacy, GIPA, etc., in tribunals. A few issues proceed to hearing. Use your negotiation experience to resolve disputes and avoid going to the tribunal or court.
  • Work on general commercial matters, including marketing reviews, commercial transactions, research-related work, seed capital, clinical trials, centre of excellence, and general contractual matters.
  • Work proactively to identify and manage risk across the institution.
  • Be a proactive business partner at all levels throughout the organisation and support teams, assisting with decisions, providing practical advice, and mitigating risk.
  • Provide legal services to optimise contractual and commercial arrangements.
  • Undertake legal research, develop and maintain legal precedents, and template documents.

The contract is set to commence at the beginning of June 2024 and will last for 6 months. The role can be 4 or 5 days per week.

  • You have a current Australian Practicing Certificate.
  • You have experience in handling disputes, general commercial matters,
  • You are comfortable operating autonomously and can adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • You are calm, considered, and practical with common sense.
  • You are prepared to take ownership of your work.
  • Prior university experience is helpful but not necessary.
  • Gain experience within a leading Sydney university.
  • Work within a collaborative, supportive, and legal and commercial team.
  • Varied and interesting work – supporting every function within the organisation.
  • Competitive remuneration – Paid on a day rate of $1,050 to $1,200. An annualised Full-Time Equivalent of $241K to $276K.
